288         THE GALLANT THIRTEENTH.
THE GALLANT THIRTEENTH.*
Colonel Geary, in command at the battle of Bolivar Heights, Va., said, " But for the Boston Company C, I should have lost the day."
TRIED, and found not wanting! valiant, firm,
and true, Boston fathers' flowing hearts send greeting back
to you; Tears were dried in loving pride, when first you
marched away, How proudly now lifts every brow, that you have
won the day!
They hear, they see your battle-field — not there
th' impetuous shout, Leads hastily, unwarily — then marks a Bull-Run
rout; But firm in stand as in resolve, they see you nobly
dare, And hold ! till Rebel foes, aghast, fly from your
Bolivar!
